Poly-γ?glutamate (γ-PGA) produced by Bacillus species has various applications due to its characteristics such as safety and biodegradability. Studies have been carried out on hydrogels produced by γ-irradiation, but these are unstable in various solutions. This study conducted to make the γ-PGA hydrogel maintain a stable form in various solutions. We prepared both γ-PGA hydrogels from γ-PGA mixtures and their characteristics were examined. The γ-PGA mixture for UV-irradiation was prepared by mixing γ-PGA and a cross-linker. We investigated the effects of the γ-PGA concentration and the molar ratio of cross-linker with γ-PGA on gelation. γ-PGA hydrogels were more cross-linked with higher γ-PGA concentrations. Preparation condition of prepared γ-PGA hydrogels was followed. Used reagent was N,N,N-trimethyl-3-[(2-methylacryloyl)amino] propan-1-aminium (METH), the concentration of γ-PGA was 20% and molar ratio of glutamate to METH was 1:1. Length of UV was 365nm and irradiated for 2hr, and applied energy was 50-70mW/cm². Both γ-PGA hydrogels characteristics including stability in solutions were examined. The UV-irradiated γ-PGA hydrogel maintained its shape for nine weeks, but the γ-irradiated hydrogel dissolved immediately after just one week.
