The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of stress perceived by government officials deployed for government-oriented festivals, on job burnout. Three variables (stress, job burnout, job satisfaction) have been chosen for the study, and the structural equation model was conducted by using the statistical tool, AMOS 20.0. The participants of the study were government officials deployed for Baekje Cultural Festival held in Gongju city, and questionnaires were distributed during the festival. A total of 246 participants were sampled for the study.
The results of the studies are as follows.
Results indicated that stress related to the job, compensation, and job culture had an effect on job burnout. Moreover, it was confirmed that stress related to the organization and corporate culture had an effect on job satisfaction, and job burnout had a negative effect on job satisfaction.
In order to improve the problems of government-oriented festivals, the following solutions would need to be examined. Efforts to solve the internal and external conditions of government officials should be made through editing of plans to mandatorily deploy public officials, an alternative to developing regional festivals by inducing voluntary participation of nearby universities or locals, allocation of festival support duties by prioritizing the individual personality, ability or aptitude of the public officials, and a monitoring method or reporting system that continuously observes the mental, physical health conditions of the officials.
Recently, internal problems difficult to detect from the outside have been observed in government-oriented local cultural festivals, as these festivals have been solely focusing on the vitalization of the local economy in a competitive manner. Job stress of government officials due to locals’ civil complaints and festival deployment is increasing, and the job dissatisfaction and exhaustion is increasing accordingly. In addition, this induces a decline in concentration and service levels. This may lead to social problems, such as manpower shortage and expense increase, and thereby, the results of the study have significance in finding the relationship between the variables.
