본 연구는 Bisphenol 화합물 중 내분비교란물질로 알려진 Bisphenol A (BPA)와 BPA의 대체물질 중 하나인 Bisphenol S (BPS)가 돼지정자의 특성과 돼지난소 내의 과립막세포에 미치는 영향에 관하여 조사하였다. 돼지정자의 배양액에 5 μM BPA와 BPS를 첨가하여 3, 6시간 처리 후 돼지정자의 운동성, 생존성, 지질과산화, 활성산소를 측정한 결과 대조구와 비교하여 운동성과 생존성이 유의적으로 감소하였으며, 지질과산화와 활성산소가 유의적으로 증가하는 것으로 나타났다(p < 0.05). 또한, 돼지난소 내의 과립막세포 배양액에 5, 10, 20 μM BPA와 BPS를 첨가하여 24, 48, 72시간 처리 후 과립막세포의 생존성을 검사한 결과, 대조구와 비교하여 시간과 관계없이 모두 유의적으로 감소하는 것으로 나타났으며(p < 0.05), 5 μM BPA와 BPS를 24, 48, 72시간 처리하여 과립막세포의 활성산소를 측정한 결과 대조구와 비교하여 모두 유의적으로 증가하였다(p < 0.05).
따라서, BPA와 BPS는 돼지정자의 운동성과 생존성의 감소와 활성산소와 지질과산화의 증가로 인한 돼지정자의 특성에 유해한 영향을 미치며, BPA와 BPS는 돼지 과립막세포의 생존성을 감소시키고, 활성산소를 증가시켜 돼지 과립막세포에 유해한 영향을 나타냈다. 이에 따라, BPA와 BPS의 노출로 인한 생식세포의 능력의 저하는 번식과 관련하여 불임 또는 난임의 문제를 야기하며, BPS는 BPA의 대체물질로서 적절하지 않으며, 더 많은 연구가 진행되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.
