The generalized Hoek-Brown failure criterion is widely used for rock engineering design as a failure function that predicts the strength of rock mass since this criterion takes into account the jointing state of the rock mass. In this study, to analyze the characteristics of the internal displacement of the circular tunnel excavated in the jointed rock mass, the elasto - plastic analysis using the GHB failure criterion as the yield function was conducted. The elasto - plastic analysis was carried out with the condition of varying GSI index and in-situ stress condition. The influence of the plastic flow rule and the plastic potential function on the elasto - plastic displacement analysis was also investigated. The displacement characteristics were analyzed by using the sidewall displacement ratio to the ceiling displacement in the circular tunnel. The analytical results showed a unique pattern of occurrence of internal displacement according to the change of GSI value and the ratio of horizontal stress to vertical stress. Also, the result shows that the plastic flow rule and the shape of the plastic potential function in the elasto - plastic displacement analysis have a great influence on the analysis results.
