Due to the increase of vehicle and traffic volumein korea, the environmental impact of the roads by the exhaust of Particulate Matter among various air pollutants is increasing. The emissions of Particulate Matter from road transport sources such as vehicle were 10,019 ton/yr for PM10 and 9,218 ton/yr for PM2.5 by CAPSS in 2014.
In order to evaluating the effect of air pollution on the highway due to driving, PM10 and PM2.5 were measured around highway and evaluated by the CALINE4 model developed by the California Road Traffic Bureau and the field measurement. The concentration was measured at 1 hour intervals during 24 hours. A total of 16 measurement points were installed at 8 points (0 m, 10 m, 20 m, 30 m, 40 m, 50 m, 70 m and 100 m) at both sides of the highway.
As a result, PM10 and PM2.5 showed the highest concentrations of 32.2 ~ 82.7 ㎍/㎥ and 30.4 ~ 67.8 ㎍/㎥, respectively. Also, there was a decreasing concentration as the distance from the road side increased.
For the implementation of the model, the vehicle registration rate by type of vehicle was applied to calculate the emission factor by vehicle type. Also, we predicted the concentration of the same location at the actual point.
When the predicted results and measured concentrations were compared with the highest, lowest, and daily average values, there was a difference by time, but the change in PM10 and PM2.5 concentration of points along the road distance showed a similar tendency.
