Purpose: The purpose of this study was conducted to test a structural model of police officer based on Post-traumatic growth model.
Methods: The selected subjects were 269 police officers who are currently employed at 10 police offices in Seoul. They were surveyed using a structured self-report questionnaires which are traumatic event, pain perception, self-disclosure, social support, deliberate rumination, and posttraumatic growth. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 23.0 and AMOS 21.0 program.
Result: The hypothetical model showed a good fitness with the data: χ2=241.42(df=69, p<.001), χ2/df=2.57, GFI=.90, TLI=.95, CFI=.95, SRMR=.07, RMSEA=.07. The major variables influencing the posttraumatic growth with police officer were social support and deliberate rumination. Two variables explained 35.7%. However, the self-disclosure and pain perception did not have a significant effect on posttraumatic growth.
Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, the theoretical basis for post-traumatic growth was provided to high-risk occupational groups experiencing trauma. Additionally, It is necessary to develop nursing intervention program to strengthen the physical and mental health of the police officers.
