The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between child care teachers’ grit, teaching efficacy and managing strategies for children''s problem behaviors, and to examine the mediating effects of teaching efficacy on the relationship between grit and these managing strategies. In order for this do purpose, a self-report survey was administered to 261 teachers at a child care center located in the Chung-buk Province. The data was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, correlation and structural equation modeling using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0.
The results showed that child care teachers’ grit directly affects managing strategies for children''s problem behaviors, and teaching efficacy has a mediating effect on the relationship between grit and these managing strategies. These findings suggest that grit and teaching efficacy of child care teachers’ are important variables affecting their managing strategies for children''s problem behaviors, and are expected to contribute to improving the quality of childcare, as they help teachers identify methods that positively address children''s behavioral problems.
