The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of functional empowerment program for vocational rehabilitation on hand function, cognitive function, social skill, and work competency of intellectual disabilities and to identify factors affecting the work competency.
The study period was September 19 through December 9, 2016, and the subjects were 30 persons, who understood the purpose and voluntarily participated in the study, among the intellectual disabilities used the E and N welfare center in G. City.
As a result, their hand function, cognitive function, social skill, and work competency were improved by functional empowerment program for vocational rehabilitation and showed significant differences comparing to control group. The main factors affecting the work competency were cognitive function and social skill.
Thus, it was confirmed that the program has value and usefulness as vocational rehabilitation program to effectively strengthen intellectual disabilities'' functional ability. Therefore, this study proposes use of the program for functional empowerment of intellectual disabilities who want to get a job.
