If the gardens were a space centered on contemplation in the past, nowadays the functions of the garden have been diversified as a space for relaxation, healing and communication and people''s interest is increasing. The social awareness of the Garden Expo increased from the Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo in 2013. Starting from Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo in 2010, various garden exhibitions are held like Seoul Garden Show, Korea Garden Show, Suncheon Hanpyeong Garden Festival, and living garden in Arboretum. As a result, the social interest in the garden has increased, and many people
are now volunteering in garden activities and willing to take citizien gardener course. There is also a tendency to create and specialize a garden within an apartment. As many fairs have been held, many garden entries have appeared. Although many studies have been conducted on the International Garden of Suncheon Bay in 2013, the research on the tendency through the analysis of the status of the other fairs is insufficient. Therefore, this study has done research on analysis of garden shows in korea from 2014 to 2016 looking forward for the tendency of the new gardens. This study’s purpose is firstly, analyzing detail of the garden through classification for the growth of the garden culture. Secondly, finding trends by analyzing current status of garden shows in korea. Lastly, suggesting basic information by analyzing garden expo for future garden expo and activation of the garden. To accomplish this, data were collected according to three types of analysis frameworks: facilities, plants, and style types of garden entries through literature review and field survey on existing garden and garden fairs. After analyzing the planting materials, facilities and analyzing the style types of the entries, In order to supplement the subjective interpretation of the results, the garden designers interview was conducted.
Overall, in the case of introduction facilities, sculptures, resting facilities, and space division type facilities were introduced the most in the last three years.
For the planting, maple trees were introduced, maple trees, pine trees and birch trees. The shrubs were mostly used as the boundary using winged spinndle, boxwood, and Namcheon. The harbaceous ornamentals were mostly Korean chrysanthemum, flame grass, Gaura, Maple-leaf mukdenia, hostas. It is considered that the characteristics of the garden facilities according to the exposition are used differentially in accordance with the theme and characteristics of the exposition. Korea Garden Show 2016 ‘s theme was ''K-garden'', and Seoul Garden Show 2015’s theme was ''Where is the garden? It is a garden that lives in Seoul. These two exhibitions’ entries used much of traditional sculpture because the theme was not a daily life, but rather a traditional related theme. The characteristics of the introduced planting material were not different depending on the theme and characteristics, although the difference of the planting species by spring or autumn was observed. Although introducing the subject that shows the traditionality as the introduction facilities, the introduction of the horticultural species, which is currently popular, has
become more prominent than the use of the native species.
This is the result of comparative analysis between Suncheon Hanpyeong Garden Festival and Seoul holding fairs. And this can be explained by the formation of Suncheon ''s regional base market and the activity area of the artist.
The tendency of the overall exhibition is that the theme is held every year as a theme related to ''everyday life'' that can be familiarized to the general public, so resting facilities in the garden facilities part has been increased and many living garden style gardens are exhibiting.
In addition, the use of grasses, which were popular overseas, began to be used variously starting from 2015.
The most diverse species were introduced by year 2015 according to the characteristics of each exhibition. This is because the arboretum workers exhibited by themselves of by collaborating with the garden designers in the year.
Finally, by analyzing by classification of the garden styles, it is confirmed that the style is simplified to "living garden style" as the current year is repeated. As such, it is considered that domestic garden fairs need to develop
separate garden related events by separating themes or inducing good competition through the characterization of local cities like foreign garden shows do.
This study has the significance as the garden historical data which can read the flow of domestic garden expo entries. And it is a research of using quantitative method on classification of garden style of 97 entries from 2014 to
2016. Lastly, by analyzing the current status of the garden facilities and planting by style types, it is meaningful to provide basic garden vocabulary which can be easily accessed from the viewpoint of the garden users.
