This study identified the effect of heat therapy at the forearm during Oxaliplatin-induced vascular pain.
A total of 66 patients hospitalized for chemotherapy were surveyed at K University Hospital from April 2 to April 28. 2017.
The heat therapy system was used in conjunction with the injection of the Oxaliplatin chemotherapy medication into the forearm, and the temperature was maintained at 38.5±0.5℃. The experimental group applied heat therapy, and the control group did not apply the heat therapy. The measurement of vascular pain was measured at the beginning of the Oxlipatin injection, at 10 and 100 minutes interval and at the end of the chemotherapy. Each time, the researcher measured the NRS, VAS, blood pressure, and the pulse rate.
The data was analyzed by t-test and repeated measures ANOVA using SPSS/Win 18.0.
The result of the study was as follows:
Hypothesis 1 : After 10 minutes, 100 minutes, and at the end of administering Oxlipatin, the NRS and VAS scores of the experimental group will differ from the control group. Hypothesis 1 was partially supported.
Hypothesis 2 : After 10 minutes, 100 minutes, and at the end of administering Oxlipatin, the vital signs of the experimental group will differ from control group. Hypothesis 2 was not supported.
Hypothesis 3 : Changes in the NRS and VAS scores of the experimental group will differ from the control group. Hypothesis 3 was supported.
Based on the above results, the experimental group experienced decreased vascular pain compared to the controls. In the experimental group, there are smaller increments in the NRS and VAS scores.
