Today, the tourism industry goes beyond the existing mass tourism to be diversified as alternative tourism, and a growing number of people very strongly want to fulfill objectives transcending personal desire and tourism instead of being preoccupied with enjoying sights and sounds during a tour.
Of special purpose tourisms, dark tourism has recently emerged as a hot issue to be proactively studied. As terrorist acts and disasters frequently occur all over the world, dark tourism is focused on visiting related places in order to look back upon the memory with respect and affection. The study was initiated from the necessity of research on the effects of attributes of selection and motivation for visits by tourists to dark tourist destinations on the degree of satisfaction with tourist destinations, and of various dark tourist destinations, UN Peace Park and United Nations Peace Memorial Hall that were selected as destinations of the study were used to honor the soul of war veterans who fought in the Korean War and display diverse exhibits in addition to graves and tombstones that can help further understanding.
As a result of empirical analyses under the assumption that the attributes of selection and motivation for visits by tourists to UN Peace Park and UN Peace Memorial Hall have effects on the degree of satisfaction with and the intention of re-visitation to tourist destinations, it turned out that there are significant effects on the designated hypothesis.
Based on the study, it is hoped that more research on dark tourism will be facilitated and generalized in the future so that dark tourism can be proactively conducted.
