The purpose of this study is to clarify the roles of Korean traditional sports in Yanbian, China. The research subjects for this study are as follows. First, the current situation of the Yanbian Korean traditional sport was examined, and the organizational processes were divided into three phases, namely, the first phase(1920-1945), the growth phase(1946-1981), and the second phase(1982-2016). The social and cultural roles of the Yanbian Korean traditional sports have been related to the history of the Yanbian Korean traditional sports has been related to the history of the current situation has been established to establish the academic status, The conclusion of the study is as follows.
First, the Yanbian Korean people have developed and developed a distinctive culture that is distinct from the other ethnic minority cultures in China. The swing is characterized as a traditional sport with a cultural mentality confronting the hardship, assimilating to the active and enterprising aspect of the Korean women, environment and climate, and the vigor is a psychological way of moving women away from traditional customs and oppression, The characteristics are well-revealed. On the other hand, wrestling is a traditional physical activity of men only, and has cultural characteristics of mutual harmony and symbiosis, and was recognized as a traditional sport event of Chinese ethnic minority in China.
Second, the socio-cultural functions of Tae-donggi(The Quickening Period, 1920-1945) Yanbian Korean traditional sports were introduced to the school sports as a national sport for the restoration of the national rights of the Korean Empire during the Japanese colonial rule and as a traditional sport, and it was recommended as an educational tool for cultivating human resources for talent. Specifically, in 1925, the ‘Gando Sports Association'', a private sports organization, was organized in Yongjeong, Yanbian. The birth of such a sports organization was the occasion for the Korean sports movement to develop into a social sports competition. Fourth, the socio-cultural functions of Yanbian Korean traditional sports in the Spring Period(1982-2016) are as follows. In 1982, the national team of the traditional sport of the Korean Autonomous Prefecture of Yanbian was welcomed with the new biography of traditional Korean sports by the 2nd National Minority Traditional Sports Contest. As a result, the Korean traditional sports education in Yanbian has become one of the goals for the development of Korean ethnic education.
As a result, the social and cultural functions of the Yanbian Korean traditional sports have been able to enhance the tradition and cultural capacity of the Yanbian Korean people through the succession and development of traditional sports and have contributed to cultivating the national consciousness and morality of the Yanbian Korean people.
