The study aims to suggest uniform shirts worn by intra-city bus drivers in Busan for improvement of operation efficiency. Toward this end, an interview method was applied to employees with Busan Bus Cooperative and 5 bus drivers in a basic survey to examine the actual condition of supply, and a questionnaire method was applied to 110 bus drivers to conduct survey on the actual condition of application, preferred design and requirements for functionality. The results are as follows:
First, as a result of survey on the actual condition of supply of uniforms worn by intra-city bus drivers in Busan, it turned out that all bus companies in Busan supplied a full-dress uniform composed of a shirt, a jacket and pants, and a vest and a winter uniform jumper varied depending on companies, and neckties were personally purchased and worn by individual drivers.
Second, as a result of survey on the actual condition on application and preference for uniforms, ‘blue color’, ‘uniformed top-and-bottom color ’ and ‘no pattern’ turned out to have a high level of preference in terms of bus driver uniforms. As for preferred design for shirts, ‘classical fit,’ ‘regular collar,’ ‘cuff sleeve,’ ‘center-back pleats,’ ‘flap-out pocket’ and ‘pointed tie’ turned out to have a high level of preference. In addition, demand for materials equipped with stretchable fabirc and comfort property turned out to be high.
Third, the design of uniform shirts developed for bus drivers is as follows. First of all, it reflected the results of a survey on preference for shirts design conducted of bus drivers, and fabric equipped with stretchable, UV protection and high-performance functionality was used in consideration of demand for materials. In the meantime, inverted pleats were applied to the back center line to befit operation movement, and side panels in loose bodies and sleeves were configured in a bias direction to improve the stretch in the back and arm. In order to reduce contamination, checkered patterns were applied to a neckband and inside of cuffs, and safe pockets were attached to side panels in order to expand storage. An aroma patch was inserted on the shoulder board so that drivers are kept from dozing off at the wheel. Lastly, patterns of a seagull and a camellia flower, the symbol of Busan, were applied to uniform shirts for intracity bus drivers in Busan.
Fourth, as a result of application of 5-point Likert scale to fitting evaluation on products subject to the study, the whole average turned out to be 4.62 in appearance evaluation conducted by a group of experts and 4.61 in evaluation on movement functionality and satisfaction by a group of wearers.
