In Korea, the number of suicide is 37.9 people per day which is the highest among the OECD countries. Suicide is the number one cause of death in their 20s. Despite the fact that the number of college students who committed suicide has increased to 60% over the past four years in 2015, little attention has paid to college students suicidal problems and the official protective net is also poor. Existing theories on suicide have various approaches, but most models predicting suicide has a narrow focus. Therefore, an integrated approach to suicide is needed. A review of the literature indicated that sense of defeat and failure was important variables predicting college students'' suicide, and the literature also suggested that the sense of not being able to escape from the negative reality was another important variable.However, research using sense of defeat and entrapment was very limited in Korea.
Integrated Motivational - Volitional Model suggested by O'' Connor approaches the suicide in an integrative way. This model discussed background factors and suggested sense of defeat and entrapment as the central path of suicide. Therefore, this study attempted to empirically validate the path of the background factors to the suicidal ideation through sense of defeat and entrapment. In addition, this study aimed to confirm the moderating effect of Social support in the relationship between sense of entrapment and suicidal ideation , as well as the moderating effect of coping ability in the relationship between sense of defeat and entrapment.
For this, the questionnaire was administered to 450 college students in Daegu area using the questionnaire on depression, life stress scale for college students (task stress, interpersonal stress), defeat scale, entrapment scale, coping ability scale, and social support scale. The collected data were analyzed using the structural equation model through SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 20.0 programs.

The main results of the study were as follows.

First, defeat influenced the suicidal ideation through Entrapment.
Second, depressive vulnerability had a direct relationship on suicidal ideation, and influenced suicidal ideation through entrapment.
Third, Task-related stress affected Suicidal ideation through sense of defeat and entrapment. Interpersonal stress effected directly on suicidal ideation.
Fourth, the moderating effect of Coping ability and Social support in each path was not statistically significant.

The results of this study suggest that the Integrated Motivational ? Volitional(IMV) model suggested by O'' Connor could partly be applicable to Korean college students. In addition, to prevent suicide of college students, it is necessary to change national structure for suicide prevention and social structure related with employment and income distribution system.
Finally, the implications for both research and practice were discussed.
