This study is to research the understanding and recognition on teacher’s right of private kindergarten teachers, to explore teacher’s right through detailed cases experienced by private kindergarten teachers. It is expected that this study result will contribute to the right awareness improvement on teacher’s right of private kindergarten teachers, actual countermeasure provision to improve the teacher’s right establishment of private kindergarten teachers.
This study set following issues.
1. How about the awareness on teacher’s right by private kindergarten teachers?
2. What have private kindergarten teachers ever experienced related to teacher’s right?
Integral study was conducted by utilizing quantitative study and qualitative study with in-dept interview. For quantitative study, total 210 questionnaires were distributed to teachers of private kindergartens located in Gimhae and Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, 16 gu and guns, Busan, final 207 (98.5%) data were used. Qualitative study was conducted to 16.
For data processing of quantitative study, the questionnaires were distributed on 5th March 2016, the final data collected until 10th May 2016 were analyzed. SPSS21.0 program were used for analysis depending on study issues. The interview period of qualitative study lasted for total 40 days, the researcher acts as surveyor. Total 2 times interview of one whole interview and one individual in-depth interview were conducted. For data collection, the contents of interview were recorded, printed with computer and repeated comparison analysis was used for data analysis.
This study shows following results.
First, when researching the awareness on teacher’s right of private kindergarten teachers, it was told that its level remains medium, teacher’s right has been very infringed. The awareness on the actual situation of teacher’s right guarantee was shown to be negative. Therefore the interest and demand on the improvement of labor condition of private kindergarten teachers should be enhanced and accepted continuously. The factor to inhibit teacher’s right included the social atmosphere in which teachers are not respected, the part to be inhibited the most shows unfair request or interference related to their status, it showed they requested the advice and cooperation from their co-workers for the countermeasure on teacher’s right inhibition. They answered that they should build their own professionality in order to establish teacher’s right and protect them against the inhibition, the social atmosphere to respect teachers should be created for teacher’s right protection as a top priority. So teachers themselves should try the best effort in order to be respected, the social atmosphere to respect teachers should be created from various angles. Also, the system for teacher’s right establishment should be provided as a countermeasure. Therefore the independent and exclusive teacher’s right in which the Specificity of kindergarten work is considered targeting young age kids, should be guaranteed to private kindergarten teachers.
Second, when reviewing ‘teacher’s right as the right to educate’, the kindergarten education courses have been operated autonomously based on Nuri course as they have no text. Kindergartens have performed infant evaluation according to individual development such as development checklists, teacher observation records, work portfolio rather than score evaluation, the private kindergarten teachers have been suffered from their young age, parent’s low awareness on their professionality. Therefore it is considered that the effort to enhance the awareness on teacher’s right is required through parents education.
When reviewing ‘the teacher’s right as professional workers’, the legal authority and social awareness are highly guaranteed for elementary, middle school and public kindergarten as public educational officials, but private kindergarten teachers are governed by private school Act so their legal position and support system are inevitably different from those of public kindergartens.
So this resulted the decrease of their morales. Therefore the right awareness improvement on teacher’s right on private kindergarten teachers should be more important than anything else, the effort on actual teacher’s right improvement of private kindergarten teachers should be required.
