The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between academic procrastination and autonomous major selection in the relationship of character and academic flow.
For this, questionnaire about character, academic flow, academic procrastination, and autonomous major selection was surveyed to the university students in Jeonbuk Province and Daejeon, and the response results of 393 students(male : 176, female : 217) were analyzed.
The results of this study are as follows. First, the more positive in the students''s character in terms of stability, extroversion, openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness, the more the degree of academic flow and autonomous major selection is raised while the academic procrastination declines. Second, academic procrastination was negatively correlated with academic flow, and autonomous major selection was positively correlated with academic flow. Third, academic procrastination and autonomous major selection are partially mediated the relationship of academic flow. Based on this results, it is suggested to focus on the character specificity as an individual inner variable to raise the academic flow, and also suggested to help students to choose the major autonomously. In addition, these results are expected to provide the basic data to develop the academic procrastination programs for improving academic flow.
