This study aimed to investigate the immediate effect of inspiratory muscle training with whole body vibration on pulmonary function of subacute stroke. A total of 30 participants were allocated to the inspiratory muscle training group with whole body vibration (n=10), the inspiratory muscle training group with visual feedback (n=10) and the inspiratory muscle training group (n=10). One group received inspiratory muscle training with whole body vibration consisting of 3 minutes per session including respiratory training of 30 times and 2 sessions for one day. Other group received inspiratory muscle training with visual feedback. The other group received inspiratory muscle training. For pre-post intervention assessments, pulmonary function and maximal inspiratory pressure and chest expansion were measured to compare a difference in experiment results. After the experiment, the results described below were derived. The inspiratory muscle training group with whole body vibration was a significant difference in forced vital capacity and forced expiratory volume at 1 second and peak inspiratory flow rate (p<.05). And there was a significant difference in maximal inspiratory pressure, chest expansion (p<.05). Comparison of groups was a difference in peak expiratory flow rate and maximal voluntary ventilation (p<.05). There was a significant difference in forced expiratory volume at 1 second and peak inspiratory flow rate on the comparison of rate of change (p<.05). These results show that the inspiratory muscle training group with whole body vibration is effective more than the other groups on pulmonary function and maximal inspiratory pressure and chest expansion. So the inspiratory muscle training with whole body vibration will help recovery of pulmonary function for stroke patients.
