The purpose of the present research was to test the influence of posture control in senior adults on vibration stimulus. Participants were 8 senior adults who keep healthy in terms of their bodies. The researcher contacted several community center for senior adults in D metropolitan city that agreed to take part in this study.
Participants were told that the purpose of the study was to examine individual test called berg balance test. In addition, all participants were asked to indicate their age, height and weight, marital status as well as the currently activity type, and also conducted one-leg standing test and both-legs standing test on 6 types vibration stimulus(personal threshold 0%, 80%, 90%, 100%, 110%, 120%) wearing the noise instrument. The mean age and height of participants were 68.5±4.2 and 157.1±2.9 with range from 65 to 76 years. They were also told that their participation were voluntary and that their data would remain confidential. All tests were conducted during the month of August, 2015.
The data were subjected to a Two-way ANOVA in SPSS 21.0 . They were used with statistical significance level at .05. The results of this research are as follows:
First, Anteroposterior postural stability of one-leg standing test revealed significant differences on vibration stimulus, whereas Anterior-posterior postural stability of both-legs standing test didn’t reveal significant differences on vibration stimulus. However, in all tasks vibration stimulus levels of sub-threshold were more effective than other vibration stimulus levels in anteroposterior postural stability.
Second, Mediolateral postural stability of one-leg standing test revealed significant differences on vibration stimulus, whereas Medio-lateral postural stability of both-legs standing test didn’t reveal significant differences on vibration stimulus. However, in both tasks vibration stimulus levels of sub-threshold were more effective than other vibration stimulus levels in mediolateral postural stability.
Third, Standing test on just one-leg, the change of center of pressure was more stable effects on stimulus intensity 90% of the threshold than other stimulus levels. The width of anterior-posterior postural stability and medio-lateral postural stability were narrower than other stimulus levels. Standing test on both-legs, the change of center of pressure was more stable effects on stimulus intensity 80% and 90% of the threshold than other stimulus levels. The width of anterior-posterior postural stability and medio-lateral postural stability were definitely narrower than other stimulus levels.
