본 연구는 광양항 활성화를 위해 배후단지에 적합한 신성장동력을 발굴하고 여기에 영향을 미치는 결정요인들을 분석하는데 주요 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 신성장동력 선정시 고려되는 주요 속성 및 세부 속성요인별 우선순위를 도출하고 신성장동력 산업의 주요 속성별 중요도를 평가하기위해 AHP 분석기법을 이용하였다. 분석 결과 광양항 배후단지 내 신성장동력 선정요인의 주요 속성에 대한 중요도 평가에서는 지역경제 활성화 요인, 화물관리 효율성 요인, 고부가 물동량 창출 요인 순으로 나타났다. 주요 속성별 세부 속성의 종합적인 중요도 평가에서는 고용창출 효과, 인근산단과의 연계성, 지역산업 발전유도, 수출입 물동량 증가 순으로 높게 나타남으로써 이들 속성이 광양항 배후단지 신성장동력 선정시 중대한 영향을 미치는 주요 결정요인들이라 할 수 있다. 신성장동력 산업 선정과 관련된 최종 대안별 평가 결과에서는 해양플랜트 부품소재가 가장 높게 평가되었고, 이어서 항공우주 부품 소재, 기능성 바이오 화학 소재, 3D 프린팅 소재, 콜드체인 순으로 중요하게 나타났다. 분석 결과를 근거로, 고용창출효과 등 지역경제 활성화 측면에서 항공우주 부품소재 산업이 유망하고 인근 산단과의 연계 등 화물의 효율적 관리 측면에서는 해양플랜트 부품 소재 산업이 유망하다고 할 수 있다.
