본 연구는 비행 청소년의 성 학대경험이 성 비행 및 위험 성 행동에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 그 과정에서 경계선 성격 특성의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울과 경기, 청주에 소재한 소년보호시설과 보호관찰소에 입소 및 출석 중인 115명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하여 기술통계분석, 상관분석, 경로분석을 실시하였다.
연구결과는 첫째, 성 학대경험, 성 비행, 위험 성 행동, 경계선 성격 특성, 외현화 문제 변인들 간의 유의미한 정적 상관이 나타났다. 이는 비행 청소년의 성 학대경험은 이들의 위험 성 행동 및 성 비행과 유의한 관련성이 있으며, 경계선 성격 특성 역시 이들 변인과 유의한 관련성이 있는 것으로 드러나 비행 청소년의 위험 성 행동에 영향을 미치는 성 학대경험과 경계선 성격 특성에 주목해야 함을 시사한다.
둘째, 비행 청소년이라는 연구대상자들의 고유한 특성을 감안하여 외현화 문제 행동 변인을 통제했을 때, 성 학대경험과 성 비행 및 위험 성 행동 간에는 여전히 유의한 정적 상관이 나타났고, 이는 대상자들의 비행수준과 상관없이 성 학대경험은 성 비행 및 위험 성 행동의 중요한 환경적 요인으로 작용함을 알 수 있다. 한편, 경계선 성격 특성은 성 학대경험, 성 비행, 위험 성 행동과 더 이상 유의미한 상관을 보이지 않았는데 이는 외현화 문제 행동과 경계선 성격 특성 간의 높은 상관에 기인하는 결과로 일반 청소년보다 비행 청소년에게서 경계선 성격 특성이 두드러진다고 보고한 선행연구들과 일치되는 결과이다.
셋째, 성 학대경험은 성 비행, 위험 성 행동 모두에게 직접적인 영향을 미치지만, 경계선 성격 특성의 매개효과는 위험 성 행동에 대해서만 유의했다. 이는 경계선 성격장애의 진단기준 중 하나가 자신에게 해를 가하는 충동성이 성관계나 소비패턴, 물질, 섭식 등과 같은 영역에서 나타나야 한다는 것과도 연관될 수 있다. 경계선 성격 특성에서 두드러지는 불안정하고 충동적인 대인관계 및 정서적 특징이 법률적으로 저촉되는 수준에서 타인에게 해를 가하는 성 비행을 유발하기 보다는 자의적, 타의적으로 성적으로 위험한 환경에 스스로를 노출시키는 것과 관련되는 것으로 생각된다.
비행 청소년의 성 비행 및 위험 성 행동에 일차적으로 영향을 미치는 성 학대경험이 줄어든다면 이들의 성 비행 및 위험 성 행동을 감소시키는데 도움이 될 것이며, 특히 경계선 성격 특성의 매개효과가 성 비행이 아닌 위험 성 행동에서만 나타났다는 점에 주목하여 성 학대경험으로 인해 형성되는 취약한 성격 구조인 경계선 성격 특성을 감소시킬 수 있는 구체적인 방안이 필요하겠다.

This study examined the effect of sexual abuse on sexual delinquency and risky sexual behavior in juvenile delinquents and identified the mediation effect of borderline personality traits. Subjects were 111 delinquent juveniles (12 to 19 years old) currently on probation in Seoul, Kyunggi and Cheongju. A series of analysis including descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, and path analysis was executed.
The results of this study were as follows. First, significant correlation were found among sexual abuse, sexual delinquency, risky sexual behavior, borderline personality traits, and externalizing problem.
This result suggests that sexual abuse and borderline personality traits of juvenile delinquents should be given close attention since it was revealed that sexual abuse and borderline personality traits were significantly related to their risky sexual behavior and sexual delinquency.
Second, when the externalizing problem behaviors were controlled taking into account the characteristics of juvenile delinquents, the sexual abuse, sexual delinquency, and risky sexual behavior still showed significant correlation, and this showed that sexual abuse was acting as an important environmental variable for sexual delinquency and risky sexual behavior regardless of the level of delinquency of the study subjects. On the other hand, borderline personality traits did not show any further significant correlation with sexual abuse, sexual delinquency, or risky sexual behavior, which was the result of a high correlation of the externalizing problem behaviors with the borderline personality traits.
This results were consistent with those of the existing studies having reported of far more protruding borderline personality traits in juvenile delinquents than in normal adolescents. Third, sexual abuse affected both sexual delinquency and risky sexual behavior directly, and mediation effect of borderline personality traits
was only significant for risky sexual behavior. This may be associated with the impulsivity of borderline personality that harms oneself in such areas as sexual relation, consumption pattern, substance and eating. It is presumed that the unstable and impulsive interpersonal relationships and affective features which stand out in the borderline character trait are more related to exposing themselves to sexually dangerous environment either voluntarily or involuntarily rather than causing sexual delinquency at the level of infringing the laws.
If sexual abuse that primarily affects sexual delinquency and risky sexual behaviors diminish, it will be helpful in reducing their sexual delinquency and risky sexual behaviors. In particular, considering that mediating effect of borderline personality traits only appeared in risky sexual behaviors instead of sexual delinquency, an appropriate intervention to manage the borderline personality trait, a vulnerable personality structure formed due to the sexual abuse, should be urgently
