Purpose: The aim of this study is to identify the relationship between knowledge and awareness of radiation department students and their intent in defensive behavior to avoid radiation, in order to help the development of strategies to minimize radiation exposure.
Methods: The subjects of this study were total 273 students who majored in radiology in universities. Data collected from by self-reported questionnaires. Descriptive analyses, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, correlation analyses and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to reveal the association factors with intention to reducing radiation exposure among some college students with radiology. The statistical significance was p<0.05.
Results: In multiple linear regression analysis, exposure health recognized for its impact were negatively associated with some awareness (β=-3.255, p=0.007) and a lot of awareness (β=-2.708, p=0.076). Intention to reducing radiation exposure due to the amount of training were positively associated with six training sessions had significantly higher knowledge and awareness (β=2.819, p=0.095). The higher the knowledge (p=0.004) and awareness (p=0.029) of radiation, the greater the preventative behavior intent increased.
Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between the knowledge and awareness of subjects on radiation, and their intent to protect themselves. Therefore, in order to prevent exposure to radiation, this study suggests that training to enhance knowledge and awareness on defenses to radiation exposure should be provided.
