AutoCAD is a Computerized Aided Design (CAD) software developed by AutoDesk, a software giant in America. It is mainly used for drawing design and provides powerful 2D and 3D drawing features for designers. AutoCAD is widely used by many industries such as mechanical, electrical, fashion, civil engineering and other designing related industries. Before the emergence of AutoCAD, stage design was hand drawn and uses projectors to illustrate various information of a target object. This is same as the common paper drawing method used in stage design and production we see nowadays. Taking the fact of efficiency using computer aided design software, I identify the need to research on how AutoCAD can benefits stage designing.
Professional designers nowadays will find it difficult to perform their tasks if they are not familiar with CAD software. CAD software provides faster and simpler method to design, model and produce graphics of an object.
By introducing AutoCAD into stage design, we can resolve issues like repetitive designs, inefficient use of information resources, reducing production lead time, bringing big economic benefits and prospects.
The application of AutoCAD in stage design can first be seen on design production. AutoCAD is currently one of the most preferred designing software due to its ease of usage, precision drawing and having graphing types and measurements that meet national standards. Many multimedia productions use AutoCAD for drafting and later transfer the images to different multimedia production software for technical processing to produce into movies. Using AutoCAD, one can render 3D graphics, adjust lightings, shadowing, colors, images and simulation processing, replacing the traditional method of using real models.
In conclusion, this research will select the commonly used AutoCAD, using the stage designs and drawing production experience from the researcher’s own performance and production from the play named “Cri” to provide detail analysis and explanations on various attributes of production processes and commands.
“During stage design, which tools can be used to develop the basic stage layout and how to use them?”
“How to convert a 2D image into a 3D object for processing and production?”
“How 3D object rendering can be more realistic?”
Questions such as above will be addressed and explained in this research paper.
