In this paper, study presents hybrid method of location tracking service which combines two well known location methods : a dead-reckoning and WiFi fingerprinting. In our work, we assume that users possess their smartphones in only three different styles, We were able to recognize style of possession using inertial sensors in smartphones. And based on this finding we applied different methods to properly count the number of steps and find and measure the direction of movements for each possession style. We mainly use dead-reckoning method to trace the location of the user and use the WiFi fingerprinting method to correct for the accumulated errors of the dead-reckoning method. Through the experiment we find that our proposed method provides promising results. We have accuracy rates of 98.36% for counting walk-steps, 97.95% for possession detection, 96.23% for orientation detection. Also we have an additional 2% improvement over conventional WiFi fingerprinting method in terms of accuracy using only nearby and promising landmarks.
