The purpose of this study was to develop and implement art activities through nature trails, which emphasized natural exploration and experience, and to investigate the effects of participation in art activities art activities through nature trails on improvement of creativity for children.
For this purpose, experiments were performed in two classes for five-year-old children-experimental and control group, respectively-at a Kindergarten in Chungbuk Province in 10 sessions for 10 weeks. Children''s creativity test was measured by the Korean version of Torrance Test of Creative Thinking(TTCT), which is translated standardized by Kim(2010).
The collected data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test and ANCOVA. The result showed that significant improvement in total creativity, fluency, originality, elaboration, resistance to premature closure, and creative strengths was found in the experimental group. The experimental group also showed statistically significant differences from the group performing no art activity through nature trails in total creativity, fluency, originality, elaboration, resistance to premature closure, and creative strengths. This result demonstrates that art activities through nature trails are effective in improving such sub-factors of creativity as total creativity, creative strengths, fluency, originality, elaboration, and resistance to premature closure.
