ABSTRACT
Factors Influencing Psychological Adaptation of Grandmother Rasing Grandchildren
-Based on the Double ABCX Family Stress Model-

The purpose of this study based on The Double ABCX Family Stress Model was to investigate the adaptation of grandmother rasing grandchildren and the factors influencing psychological adaptation. Data were collected by personal interview with 213 grandmothers rasing grandchildren through questionnaire survey method.
To answer the research questions, t-test, F-test, Duncan''s multiple range test, Pearson''s correlation analyses, and structure equation modeling analyses were performed.
The result of the survey are as fallows.
First, there were significant differences in a file-up stressors and strain across income, job, grandchildren''s number, and first grandchildren''s age.
Second, there were significant differences in the grandchildren support across income, job, and first grandchildren''s age and there were significant differences in the functional solidarity with grandchildren''s parents across grandmather'' job, nurture period.
Third, there were significant differences in the social support across grandmother''s age.
Forth, there were significant differences in the redefinition of nurture across income, job.
Fifth, there were significant differences in the depression across grandmother''s education level, job. And there were significant differences in the happiness across spouse, grandmother''s job.
Sixth, there were significant positively correlated between a file-up stressors and the level of depression, but significant negatively correlated between the happiness. There were significant negatively correlated between the family adaptive resources and the level of depression, but significant positively correlated between the happiness. And there were significant negatively correlated between the social support and the level of depression, but significant positively correlated between the happiness. Also the definition and meaning negatively correlated between the level of depression, but significant positively correlated between the happiness. There were significant negatively correlated between a file-up stressors and the grandchildren support, but significant positively correlated between the informative support. There were significant negatively correlated between a file-up stressors and the definition of nurture. And there were significant positively correlated between the family adaptive resources and the family definition. There were significant positively correlated between the family definition and the informative, instrument, emotional support, and the financial support.
Seventh, it is possible to apply McCubbin and Patterson''s Double ABCX model to the research model in terms of psychological adaptation of grandmother rasing grandchildren.
Finally, the definition of nurture had the greatest effect on the psychological adaptation of grandmother rasing grandchildren follwed by a file-up stressors, and the family adaptive resources.
