This study considered changes and development of our residential space according to diverse culture and new environment recently and suggest new approach about Hanok. I analyze actual living condition of the resident and characteristic of hanok through complete enumeration about newly built hanok and provide the basic data for finding improvement direction and improving effectiveness of Hanok.
This study determine research range as newly built hanok by resident of tile-roofed wooden house form after 1990s. These kind of hanoks are commonly called ‘modern honok.’ The definition of modern hanok is “Depending on changes of times and lifestyle, hanok changed interior space configuration by introduction of modern residence style.”
The modern honok of research target is limited to eight cities and counties in Gyeongsangnam-do. First, research cases are classified as residential hanok and non-residential hanok. Second, according to the architectural characteristic of Hanok, an object of study are divided into four type as below.

? type of tradition seeking : Hanok of this type faithfully follow traditional techniques and materials, design, traditional space configuration.
? type of tradition transformation : this type apply traditional techniques and materials, design, modern space configuration.
? type of tradition application : this type apply material. Modern technologies and materials, design, traditional space configuration.
? type of tradition simplification : Hanok briefly built of this type to apply modern technologies and materials, design, modern space
this type is built briefly by applying modern technologies and materials, design, modern space configuration.

This study presented the concrete data for actual living conditions of the resident and characteristics of newly built Hanoks after 1990s. As basic material, It will be help to refining and seeking a novelty of ‘Hanok’ as the Korean Dwelling Houses been in harmony with regionality and currency.
