Through the application of the legibility, the city can be differentiated from other cities with strong images. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the ingredients of the legibility and seek the physical elements.
According to the ingredients of legibility, the identity has characteristic of symbolism, historicity and plasticity of architectural and the structure has characteristic of directivity, openness, safety and continuity, the meaning has characteristic comfort, stability and enjoyment. Also the physical components of legibility were appeared as monuments, iconic buildings, large-scale structures and buildings, topography, patterns of the road, roads(walking space), plaza, parks, and gardens.
Based on these results, this study analyzed the image of the city of Busan. Although Busan doesn''t have strong images for the components of the legibility, there are great potentialities to have high legibility such as Haeundae, Gwangalli, and Gwangan Bridge.
