The present dissertation aims at applying the multi-pass caliber-rolling process to near-β type Ti-13Nb-13Zr to enhance biomechanical properties for hard tissue replacement. First, the mechanism and influence of phase transformation during the caliber-rolling were revealed. The influence of rate of cooling followed by the caliber-rolling process upon tensile improvements was investigated. In addition, the mechanisms under the martensitic transformation under the caliber-rolled Ti-13Nb-13Zr were discussed in terms of alloying diffusion. Second, the metallurgical phenomena which occurred during the caliber-rolling process were elucidated in light of the strain accumulation, microstructural evolution, dislocation dynamics, and strain-hardening behavior. Numerical simulation, experimental analysis, and constitutive dislocation model were utilized extensively. Finally, the combination of multi-pass caliber-rolling process, graphene-oxide coating, and drug-delivery system was evaluated as the novel method to fabricate ultrafine-grained bulk rod that could be applicable in the biomedical industry. The alloy manufactured by this process exhibited the enhanced mechanical properties, cell proliferation, and differentiation.
