본 논문에서는 3D 자동 유방 초음파 영상에서 유방 조직인 유두와 흉근층 및 유선 조직을 자동 검출하는 방법을 제안한다. 유두 자동 검출에서는 첫째, 지방 및 유선 조직으로의 번짐을 방지하고 위치화 단계의 정확성을 높이기 위하여, 가우시안 잡음제거 필터와 왜도 분석을 통해 유두/유륜 위치화 슬라이스 영상을 자동으로 선별하고 이를 이용하여 관상면 슬랩-평균투영 영상을 생성한다. 둘째, 타원 형태를 띄는 유두/유륜 영역을 위치화 하기 위하여 관상면 슬랩-평균투영 영상에서 소벨 연산자와 허프 변환 이용하여 유두/유륜 영역을 타원으로 검출한다. 셋째, 유두 검출의 정확성을 높이기 위하여 3D 오츠 임계값 기법과 누적확률맵을 이용해타원 형태의 유두/유륜 영역 내에 존재하는 유륜, 지방, 유선조직 등으로부터 유두를 분리시키고 최종 유두 검출점을 구한다. 흉근층 및 유선 조직 자동 검출에서는 첫째, 경계가 불명확한 늑골 그림자 영역을 강화시키기 위하여 밝기값 변환 필터와 헤시안 행렬 분석을 통하여 늑골 그림자를 강화한다. 둘째, 연결되어 있는 늑골 그림자 구조를 분리시키고 형태 및 방향성 정보를 통한 지방 영역 제거의 정확성을 향상시키기 위하여, 관상면 누적확률과 시상면 누적확률을 통해 늑간 영역과 소형 지방 영역을 제거한다. 셋째, 늑골 그림자 상단에 존재하는 흉근층 검출의 정확성을 향상시키기 위하여, 모멘트 행렬 분석기반 형태 및 방향성 정보를 이용하여 늑골 그림자 상단에 존재하는 큰 지방 영역을 제거하고, 늑골 그림자를 3차 B-운형 보간하여 흉근층을 검출한다. 넷째, 흉근층 하단 영역에 유선조직과 유사한 밝기값이 존재하므로 검출된 흉근층 상단 영역에 대하여 가우시안 혼합 모델링과 퍼지 C-평균값 군집화를 수행하여 유선 조직을 검출한다. 제안 유두 자동 검출 방법의 평가를 위해 3D 자동 유방 초음파 정면 촬영 영상 11개, 측면 촬영 영상 7개에 대하여 정성적 평가와 정량적 평가를 수행하였다. 정성적 평가 결과 유두가 유방 중심에 위치한 정면 촬영 영상 뿐 아니라 유두가 유방 경계로 치우친 측면 촬영 영상에서도 정확하게 유두의 위치를 검출할 수 있었다. 정량적 평가 결과 제안방법의 유두 검출율은 94%로 측정되었고 유두 검출 평균 오차는 3.00±2.95mm로 측정되었다. 제안 흉근층 및 유선 조직 자동 검출 방법의평가를 위해 3D 자동 유방 초음파 영상 5개에 대하여 정성적 평가와 정량적 평가를 수행하였고, 정성적 평가 결과 늑골 그림자 간 높낮이 변화가 크거나 늑골 그림자 영역이 작게 나타나 늑간 영역이나 지방 영역이 강하게 나타나는 영상에서도 늑간 및 지방 영역의 영향을 받지 않고 정확하게 흉근층을 검출하였다. 제안방법을 통한 흉근층 자동 검출과 2명의전문가의 수동 검출 간 다이스 계수 유사도를 측정한 정량적 평가 결과,전문가1과는 92.00%±3.09%, 전문가2와는 90.86%±4.24%로 측정되었다. 3D 자동 유방 초음파 영상에서 본 제안방법을 통해 유방 조직을 자동으로 검출함으로서 3D 자동 유방 초음파의 판독 시간을 단축시키고, 유방암의 진단 및 검출에 도움을 줄 수 있다.
