Nowadays it has been generalised Korean modern house as ''Western style house and APT'' by having introduced Western culture to Korea. These styles of house are nadoptable in Korean sentiment therefore it is beginning to
demand a typical Korean traditional housing style rather than the other styles.
The purpose of this research is to propose the accurate approach toward represent the Korean Traditionality in designing houses by studying the case
studies that are assessed as fine designed houses with adapting typical Korean traditional style by an architect and an architecture critic and included in Architectural magazine; C3, PLUS, SPACE, and 건축문화 during a decade from 2001.
In addition, the process of this research is 1. based on the explanation and the criticism of the designs in order to study blueprints and photographs of the case studies, 2. to understand the Traditionality by classifying three different
elements; a thought, a space and a design of the case studies and 3. to apply Space Syntax to understand the relationship between spaces for analysis spaces of the case study. Furthermore, it understands the tendency for designing the Traditionality based on the process.
As consequently, the thought of the Traditionality is included in the spatial feature of the Traditionality and it is represented by reinterpreting typical space of Korean traditional house; HANOK for example the unique and blurred space between exterior and interior space; a garden comes into interior space with its functions but changing the form into semi-open, and symbolised particular space such as a bower. The design as one of element of the Traditionality is charactersied by designing abstractly and indirectly rather than copying HANOK spaces. In other word, this assume application phase of applying the Traditionality on designing house.
This phase is the meaningful attempt to design a house in order to satisfy the requirements of clients to experience Korean traditional spaces in confined site.
In doing so, it can be provide more opportunities to experience HANOK spaces by applying not only a visible space like a garden and Maru the floor of a Korean verandah but also the unique space that is invisible but possible to experience in where the semi-open space between outside and inside of a Korean traditional house.
