This study tried to identify the effects of human papilloma virus related education on the knowledge on human papilloma virus and cervical cancer, and human papilloma virus vaccination intention of teen age female high school students.
The subjects of this study were grade 1 high school girls in K city in December in 2012. 30 high school girls in K high school in K city were assigned to experimental group and 34 high school girls in J high school in K city were assigned to control group.
Knowledge on human papilloma virus was measured using 20 questions developed by Kim Hye?won and Ahn Hye?young (2007) and modified by Ji So?wun (2009). Cervical cancer knowledge was measured using 10 questions developed by Kim Young?bok (2000) and modified by Kim Mi?hyang (2005). Intention of human papilloma virus vaccination was measured by 4 questions, 5 point?scale questions developed by Lee Eun?ji based on human papilloma virus vaccination intention measurement tool by McRee and et al.(2010).
Collected materials were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 WIN program such as frequency analysis, percentage, average and standard deviation and t-test verification.
The followings are the results of this study.
(1) Human papilloma virus knowledge score of experimental group was increased from 2.07 at the pretest to 19.10 at the post test. The score of control group also slightly increased from 2.76 to 2.91. There was significant difference between two groups as the score of the experimental group increased dramatically (t=27.620, p<.001).
(2) Cervical cancer knowledge score of experimental group that received human papilloma virus related education increased from 1.73 to 9.77, while that of control group increased from 2.76 to 3.21. There was significant difference between two groups in cervical cancer knowledge score (t=14.549, p<.001).
(3) Mean value of vaccination intention of experimental group that received human papilloma virus related education increased from increased from 1.05 to 4.83. That of control group increased from 1.93 to 3.71. There was significant difference between two groups in vaccination intention (t=6.660, p<.001).
From the results of this study, it was found that human papilloma virus related education improved knowledge on human papilloma virus and cervical cancer of high school girls effectively and increased vaccination intention, too. Therefore, it is proposed to promote human papilloma virus related education on high school girls in school fields actively.
