The purpose of this study was to examine effects of mother''s parental and marital relationship on mother-child relations. Subjects of this study were 300 mothers of young children aged 2-5 years old preschoolers attending 6 kindergartens located in Cheongju city and Cheongwon-gun. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, Cronbach''s α, t-test, F-test, Tukey post-hoc test, Pearson''s product-moment correlation coefficient using the SPSS 12.0 program, and path analysis was done using AMOS 7.0 program.
The results of this study were as follows:
First, mother''s parental and marital relationship were statistically different according to father''s educational level. The relationship between mother and child were statistically different according to children''s sex and mother''s age.
Second, mother''s positive relationship with parents had a direct effect on marital relationship and positive relationship with their children.
Third, mother''s marital relationship had direct effects on positive and negative relationship with their children. That is, the higher mother''s marital intimacy had, the higher positive relationship with their children had whereas the lower negative relationship with their children did.
Fourth, mother''s negative relationship with their father had a direct on marital relationship while mother''s negative relationship with their mother did not. Moreover, mother''s negative relationship with their parents had a direct effect on negative relationship with their children.
Fifth, mother''s marital relationship had mediated between mother''s parental and children''s relationship positively and negatively. That is, mother''s relationship with their children came down from generation of parents to their children.
