(Abstract)
This study was carried out to develop the optimal medium for indoor vertical garden through diverse medium combinations of artificial soil and to investigate plant growth response in the medium. Vertical garden is particularly required the lightweight, high water holding capacity, and nutrient holding capacity on account of the distinct characteristics of the vertical planting and the lack of planting space. Therefore, the medium3, which was showed the lowest solids ratio, the highest maximum water holding capacity and CEC (cation exchange capacity) in the result of measuring the physical-chemical of the medium, was regarded as the optimal medium for green wall. Although Ardisia pusilla Tiny Ardisia showed statistically no significant difference between mediums except for leaf number, its growth condition was very excellent in the medium3 and then the characteristics of physical and chemical of the medium were appropriate to Ardisia pusilla Tiny Ardisia. In the case of Trachelosprum asiaticum var. intermedium Nakai Chinese Ivy, its growth conditions (plant height, leaf number, leaf stalk, leaf width and lateral branch number etc) were also showed definitely excellent in the medium3 in comparison with other mediums in the like sort of the result of Ardisia pusilla Tiny Ardisia. Euonymus japonicas Goldheart Enymus appeared to be desirable to the medium 8 rather than the medium3 unlike the previous results. The results of this study indicated that the difference of each plant growth response resulted from each plant growth habit according to medium combinations and appropriate medium for each plant was certainly different. For completing this study, appropriate mediums for various indoor vertical garden should be developed and demonstrated by diverse medium combinations.
