Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate pharmacological effect with Aberrant Behavior Checklist(ABC) in children with autistic disorder who had serious behavior problems.
Methods: Retrospective review of the charts of 23 children and adolescents with autistic disorder, who visited the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of Kyungpook National University Hospital, from October 2011 to October 2012, was conducted. After treatment with risperidone, changes in severity and improvement were measured using the ABC at baseline, 1st visit and 2nd visit, respectively.
Results: The mean daily risperidone dose was increased from 0.7±0.3mg to 1.1±0.5mg. After rating of pharmacological effect with ABC, irritability, lethargy, hyperactivity subscale and total scores improved significantly from baseline to 2nd visit. Stereotypy subscale scores improved significantly from 1st visit to 2nd visit. Inappropriate speech subscale scores were not improved significantly.
Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that ABC may be used efficiently for the rating of pharmacological effect in children with autistic disorder.
