There have been interests in Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) for many surgeons and researchers. NOTES is less invasive and may be economical for patients by reducing hospitalization period. Among many disease, obesity is one of the most common and serious disease in the world because people do not recognize obesity as a disease. However, the incidence of obesity is getting higher and higher, and obesity drives other disease such as high blood pressure, infertility, diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnea, and mortality. Therefore, there have been active studies to replace open surgeries to endoscopic surgeries.
Endocinch, G-prox, and Stomaphy X are the devices for the endoscopic bariatric surgery. These reduce stomach pouch and stoma with their own suture mechanism. They are in human trial and showed the efficacy for weight loss. Even though there still need to be more research to prove the efficacy, it seems to use suture mechanism is more effective because other mechanism such as injections, electrical stimulations, and prostheses have reported ineffective results.
In this study, we developed an endoscopic continuous suturing device working in a single channel. The aim of this study is to evaluate the functionality of the device in in vitro porcine model. The second aim of the study is to assess the feasibility of the device in in vivo porcine model.
