This study was conducted to analyze research trends and research results on the color and lighting environment of the elderly residential spaces and to suggest future research directions according to the reflection of aging characteristics of the elderly. It proceeded with a five-step research procedure established based on the methodology of reviewing the subject range literature. A total of 473 papers were reviewed according to the selection criteria and exclusion criteria to select the final 12 papers. The general characteristics of the literature were analyzed by publication year, publication journal, research topic, research subject, research method, analysis method, and research result. The subject range characteristics were identified for the research perspective of color and lighting, the type of analysis space, research participants, and research results. Most of the preceding studies have been conducted on color, and most of them are to identify preferences and propose color schemes. Future research should be conducted functionally and empirically. Along with the complex study of color and lighting, there is also a need for specialization plans for the elderly. In the case of a study of solution proposal, the application and evaluation of the proposal should also be made. Although this study did not deal with foreign cases and has limitations in that it is limited to the main life limit of the elderly, it is meaningful that it examined the research trends of color and lighting and suggested future research directions.
