Purpose: The purpose of this study is to verify the nonlinear relationship between the innovation orientation of Chinese manufacturing export companies on export performance and to verify the moderating effect of network and internationalization in this relationship.
Research design, data, and methodology: This study conducted a questionnaire after deriving a research model and a research hypothesis based on the research purpose presented above, and conducted an empirical analysis based on the collected questionnaire. After verifying the reliability and validity of the measurement tool in the analysis process, the hypothesis is verified through path analysis.
Results: Summarizing the research results, first, it was found that innovation orientation and export performance had a ∩ relationship, the network further strengthened this relationship, and the degree of internationalization alleviated this relationship.
Implications: First, the verification of the nonlinear relationship between innovation orientation and export performance is considered meaningful in that it has made new academic discoveries in the field of international management. In addition, this nonlinear relationship suggests that excessive innovation orientation may favor other strategic orientations. Second, the finding that the degree of network and internationalization bring about changes in this relationship suggests that Chinese exporters can provide guidelines for implementing innovation orientation in the future.
