The purpose of this study is to provide foundational data on the application of colors in floral design by comparing and analyzing the color characteristics of dominant colors in Korean and Chinese floral design works. The color tones of dominant colors were analyzed in representative art design works from Korea and China. Visual analysis was conducted by experts, focusing on the colors and tones used within the works. Both Korea and China exhibited a shared preference for stable and natural color images, predominantly utilizing bright and soft tones. Korean floral design emphasized vibrancy and splendor through the use of vivid and intense high-brightness tones, whereas Chinese floral design conveyed calm and refined imagery by employing low-brightness and low-chroma tones. Additionally, Korean designs pursued diverse expressions through a wide range of brightness and chroma, while Chinese designs emphasized auxiliary and accent colors by incorporating darker tones. This study provides insights into the design aesthetics and color preferences of Korea and China by identifying cultural differences in color usage within floral design. The findings offer valuable data for developing effective strategies for color application in the field of art design.
