Design from the past continues to profoundly influence contemporary aesthetics, permeating various aspects of daily life. As aesthetic elements become increasingly central, they not only enhance visual experiences but also impact psychological and physical well-being. This study examines the formal and conceptual characteristics in the works of Matthew Barney, the Chapman brothers, Cindy Sherman, and Kiki Smith-renowned for their postmodern aesthetic expressions-and explores how these can be adapted into modern makeup design. Focusing on the Grotesque's four main traits-bizarre, fragmented, playful, and degrading-this research investigates how each artist interprets and conveys these characteristics, providing a foundation for integrating them into art makeup. The study builds its theoretical framework through an extensive review of domestic and international literature, prior research, and artworks, alongside a detailed study of each artist's aesthetic attributes. Representative works embodying the Grotesque style were selected under expert guidance to ensure analytical precision. The research culminated in the creation of eight distinctive makeup designs, categorized into three areas: color analysis, data reference, and overall illustration styling. These designs draw upon the selected artworks to translate the artists' interpretations into visual elements that resonate with modern aesthetics. These findings are expected to contribute to modern art makeup by serving as essential data for expanding and developing the field of makeup design. They provide a framework to foster artistry and creativity, demonstrating the applicability of postmodern aesthetic concepts in contemporary practices.
