This study proposes the utilization of Jeju Dark Tourism through the topographical landscape of the Japanese cave fortifications along the coast of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, Jeju Island. This research was conducted to provide implications for the future activation of Jeju Dark Tourism. To this end, the topographical landscape of the Japanese cave fortifications along the coast of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, Jeju Island, should play a role as a new axis of tourism in that it sublimates the painful historical background of the past and recognizes its value. It is necessary to pay attention to the aspect that the military facilities during the Japanese colonial period and the Jeju April 3 Incident do not simply sensationalize the cruel history of the past, but reconstruct the definition and memory of the past history of civil society. Therefore, by focusing on the Japanese cave fortifications along the coast of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, Jeju Island, such as the Tteojinmok, Songaksan cave fortifications, Altteureu Airfield, and Seottaloreum April 3rd Massacre site, Jeju Island’s unique competitiveness and value will be increased through future-oriented sublimation of Jeju’s painful history, and we hope that Jeju will become a new historical site that dark tourists will visit in the future.
