Although many people worldwide are already experiencing environmental loss and grief related to climate change, there is no public language or conceptual framework ready to embrace those experiences. When the loss experienced by individuals or groups is not recognized as a loss, problem-solving is bound to be a long way off. Thus, it is time for a framework of concepts that can explain and deal with new forms of environmental loss and grief faced by people in the era of climate change. Hence, this study uncovers and presents new concepts of loss and grief that are useful for understanding and coming to terms with the problems surrounding environmental loss in the era of climate change and put examples and phenomena of environmental loss related to climate change in the conceptual framework. To this end, the present study draws on the concepts of "eco-grief," "solastalgia," and "ambiguous loss" to understand the environmental changes and deaths characteristic of the era of climate change in the context of loss and grief. Accordingly, this study aims to help cover and deal with new forms of environmental loss and sadness experienced by people in the era of climate change by including the exclusion or marginalized loss from the framework of the existing human (relationship) centered loss theory and sadness theory.
