The purpose of this study is to evaluate the design characteristics of elderly welfare housing in the Jeonbuk region and assess the perceptions of elderly residents regarding these design attributes. The evaluation was conducted based on the importance and satisfaction of the design characteristics and their specific elements as perceived by the elderly residents. A combination of field investigations and resident surveys was carried out, with the surveys conducted in December 2023. For the study, assessment tools for design characteristics and survey instruments were developed based on prior research. The results revealed that in residential units, the health and safety of the bathroom, the health standards of the kitchen, and the health and adaptability of the living room/bedroom were rated highly. However, the safety of the entrance and the adaptability of the kitchen were rated lower, indicating areas for improvement. Additionally, in communal areas, the safety, health, and adaptability of stairwells, as well as the adaptability of elevators, were identified as needing improvement.
