As part of the redevelopment of Cheongju’s old downtown area, high-rise apartment buildings have started to emerge. However, these superblock-style high-rises disrupt the urban fabric and cityscape, creating isolated enclaves that ultimately sever ties with the surrounding community. The area around Uam Elementary School, located in Cheongju’s old downtown, is undergoing active development. The space between Sangdang-ro and Daeseong-ro is particularly notable for its fragmented urban structure and the isolating behaviors of its residents. This study aims to propose a residential complex that preserves the existing road system while creating a community-oriented street network that fosters social interaction within the neighborhood. Additionally, it seeks to present a strategy for integrating the residential complex with both the local community and the broader city.
