This study analyzed the microbial identification and distribution of Makgeolli sold in the eastern region of Jeollanam-do (Suncheon, Yeosu, and Gwangyang) using metagenome analysis. As a result, the species with the highest relative abundance on average in six samples was Lactiplantibacillus paracasei, which was analyzed to be 75.03% in the SM-A sample, 43.35% in the GM-A sample, and 23.31% in the YM-A sample. Additionally, Companilactobacillus heilongjiangensis was the most dominant strain in the GM-B sample at 96.02%, Leuconostoc falkenbergense was the most dominant strain in the YM-B sample at 35.23%, and Levilactobacillus brevis ATCC 14869 = DSM 20054 was the most dominant strain in the SM-B sample at 32.07%. In order to compare the microbial community structure between Makgeolli samples, PCoA and UPGMA tree analyses using the Jaccard distance matrix showed that samples located close to each other in the PCoA tended to cluster together in the UPGMA tree. Network analysis results revealed two groups of bacteria showing strong positive correlations, and one group of bacteria showing strong negative correlations. This study is expected to be used as basic microbial genetic research data on the similarities and differences between Makgeolli sold in the eastern region of Jeollanam-do.
