This study shows that Korean stops contrast in phonological voicing, based on the distribution of acoustic cues of word-initial and word-medial stops. Voicing contrasts of stops are expressed variously by major acoustic cues - VOT, F0, closure duration, and closure voicing - depending on language or context where the stop occurs. Korean lax stops represent their voicing with low F0, short closure duration, word-medial short VOT, and word-medial closure voicing, while aspirated and tense stops represent their voicelessness with high F0, and long closure duration without closure voicing. The F0 difference of word-initial stops has been enhanced to maintain their voicing contrast, which has been threatened by the recent VOT merger. The introduction of [voice] feature for Korean stops would avoid the adoption of Korean-specific [tense] or [constricted] feature.
