In order to analyze precarious work of Korean youth reflecting subjective perception, this study reconceptualizes labor precariousness multidimensionally, calculates scale and intensity of precarious work among youth using hedonic weights, and analyzes the heterogeneity among youth. T o do so, this study uses data from the 17th wave of the Korean Welfare Panel, constructs labor precariousness of four dimensions(employment instability, income insufficiency, social protection exclusion, and working condition vulnerability), and measures these dimensions with five indicators (temporary employment, low income, employment insurance exclusion, non-membership of labor union, excessive working hours). The study derives the relative influence of each dimension perceived by youth, using the hedonic weight calculation method and constructs the labor precariousness index. Based on the index, the scale and intensity of precarious workers are assessed and the influencing factors of precarious work is identified through logistic regression analysis. The major results of the study are as follows. First, all four dimensions constructing labor precariousness have a significant impact on youth’s job satisfaction, and the relative influence of each dimension is in the order of temporary employment(37.7%), low wages(36.2%), non-membership of labor union(13.4%), excessive working hours(10.0%), and employment insurance exclusion(2.8%). Second, the proportion of the youth experiencing labor precariousness is high at 38.0%, with intensity of 0.66, indicating that precarious workers experience precariousness in 3.29 out of 5 dimensions on average. Finally, logistic regression analysis shows that female youth, metropolitan residents, and youth with a high school diploma or less are more likely to experience precarious work.
