The purpose of this study is to explore the job experiences and meanings of the death and dying of the elderly in the elderly nursing home by social workers working in nursing homes. In this study, 13 social workers with more than 3 years of experience working in a nursing home for the elderly participated, and the experiences related to the death of the elderly in this study were collected through in-depth interviews. The researcher analyzed and interpreted the research data collected in this way through Van-Manen’s hermeneutics phenomenology research method. As a result of data analysis, it was possible to find 31 marked themes among the end-of-life care experiences of social workers in nursing homes for the elderly, and they could be grouped into 8 essential themes. The subject of the entire job experience of the study participants was set as “Developing Endurance and Doing Their Best in Fear” by implicating the job process of cultivating the power to endure sadness and fear, seeking various ways to die with dignity, and doing their best as a social worker. The essential themes of ‘Confronting mental and physical collapse’ and ‘A loss of a sense of accomplishment’, ‘Responsible for everything from admission to death in poor conditions’, ‘Grief without a chance for healing’, ‘Gap between reality and ideal’, ‘Growing up on experience’, ‘Overcoming and maturity’, ‘Preparation for dignity death’ were selected for each.
