As the most advanced technology of the century, artificial intelligence(AI) will soon replace many tasks and jobs traditionally performed by individuals. It has become imperative for countries to provide everyone with the opportunity to acquire knowledge about AI for their continued development. Therefore, everyone should learn AI. This is especially true for K-12 students, who are the future generation, but teacher education focused on AI education is severely lacking around the world. This study conducted a qualitative study through a literature review analysis to explore how preservice teachers are exposed to and understand AI concepts. Based on the analysis, this study designed an AI education program for pre-service teachers. The designed training program adopts hands-on, participatory, and active learning approaches to enhance learning engagement. Future educational programs should consider the use of relatable activities and contents infused with contextualized resources and learning materials to fulfill the contextual relevance of AI applications and design. In the future, policymakers and relevant stakeholders should consider institutionalizing standardized AI teacher training programs as part of a national AI policy strategy.
