Shared housing models have evolved to reflect the diverse lifestyles of young people. With the rise of single-person households in South Korea, new family structures based on social relationships are emerging, positioning shared housing as a viable solution. However, many shared housing programs lack cohesion leading to fragmented communities. Integrating sustainable elements, such as smart farms, into shared housing can foster interconnected activities, build sustainable communities and extend these connections into local neighborhoods. This study proposes a design plan for shared housing incorporating smart farms to promote sustainable community activation. Focusing on single-person youth households and urban smart farms, the research uses a specific site near Jemulpo Station in Incheon, South Korea. The study identifies spatial structures of shared housing and establishes criteria for community formation based on spaces, activities, and participants. Case studies are analyzed using these criteria to extract key planning elements. Based on these findings, a design proposal is developed including programmatic strategies, floor plans, and sectional layouts. By embedding smart farms within the spatial structure, the design facilitates activities engaging residents and local communities, broadening the role of shared housing in a social context. The study acknowledges its limitation in providing empirical evidence to validate effectiveness.
