Modular construction is an off-site building method in which standardized indoor spaces are prefabricated in a factory and later assembled on-site. This method brings the concept of mass production from the manufacturing industry into the construction sector. Recently, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and population density issues in various regions, the demand for modular buildings that can be relocated has been increasing. This is largely driven by a shortage of educational facilities due to rising student numbers, the need for temporary educational facilities during the reconstruction of outdated school buildings, and the replacement of aging office buildings. However, aside from school modular buildings, there have been no cases of modular buildings relocation in Korea. Therefore, it is crucial to preemptively investigate the potential challenges that could arise during the disassembly and reinstallation of these buildings, such as reuse rates and recyclability. This study aims to conduct such preliminary examinations and contribute to future research on the reuse and recycling of modular buildings.
